Negative White Broken is clearly driven by an 80s vibe, much more post-punk yet too dense, too wave-like with its meandering guitars to be a purebred post-punk song. Liebens' smoothly whispering voice tells the tale of lost love. And still, despite Broken's undeniable melancholia, The Haunted Youth don't fall short on their indie rock influences which shine bright in the extended instrumental part. I call it brilliant. The Haunted Youth are pulling out all the stops with this uptempo summer tune, making you walk on air and long for a drink on a festival site. Echoing the grandiose style of high-sounding bands such as The Cure and M83, ‘Broken’ naturally also bears the band’s instantly recognizable signature dreamy sound.

‘Broken’ is the centrepiece of the highly anticipated debut album, and will be getting a physical release as a 12” single featuring 3 alternative versions (Extended / Tape / Bedroom). “The song is about feeling lost or helpless after being betrayed in a friendship or relationship you thought would last forever”, THY’s Joachim Liebens explains.

The Haunted Youth rose to fame in 2021 with debut single ‘Teen Rebel’, a success even surpassed by follow-ups ‘Coming Home’, ‘Gone’ and ‘Shadows’. The band attracted attention in the rest of Europe and the US, earning praise from outlets including NME, KEXP and Consequence. Quickly becoming everyone’s new favourite band, The Haunted Youth will be touring all over Europe this year and the next.
